An Integrated Roadmap by FMST (2017-2030)
Overview
This document presents the National Science, Technology and Innovation Roadmap (NSTIR) 2030, an integrated roadmap developed by the Federal Ministry of Science and Technology (FMST) of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. The roadmap covers the period 2017-2030 and aims to catalyze Nigeria's economic growth and competitiveness through science, technology, and innovation (STI). The foreword, signed by the Minister of Science and Technology in June 2017, highlights the lack of interest in science and mathematics among Nigerian students, over-reliance on foreign expertise for infrastructure and industrial projects, and a mindset that associates STI with non-Nigerians. The minister expresses determination to change this so that STI plays a key role in nation-building. The document emphasizes that STI is the engine of socio-economic advancement, citing benefits such as industrial development, infrastructure, communication, energy, health, environmental protection, and job creation. It references a 2015 PWC report projecting Nigeria's economy as one of the fastest-growing globally, with a rise from 20th to 9th largest economy by 2050. The roadmap is intended to align STI investments with national economic targets, leveraging STI to modernize facilities, production systems, and services. Key themes include national development, industrial policy, education, and global competitiveness. Entities mentioned: Federal Ministry of Science and Technology (FMST), President Muhammadu Buhari, PricewaterhouseCoopers (PWC), Nigeria, Vietnam.
