Overview
The National Information Technology Development Agency Act 2007 establishes the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) as a corporate body with perpetual succession. The Act is organized into eight parts covering the establishment of the Agency, composition and powers of the Governing Board, staff and structure, the National Information Technology Development Fund, Information Technology Parks, financial provisions, legal proceedings, and miscellaneous matters. The Agency is tasked with creating a framework for the planning, research, development, standardization, application, coordination, monitoring, evaluation, and regulation of Information Technology (IT) practices, activities, and systems in Nigeria. The Governing Board includes representatives from various ministries and professional bodies, as well as experts from each of Nigeria's six geo-political zones. The Act also provides for a National Information Technology Development Fund to be funded by a levy on specified goods and services, with the Federal Inland Revenue Service responsible for collection.
