Overview

The National Institute for Cultural Orientation Act establishes the National Institute for Cultural Orientation in Nigeria, with the objective to serve as a focus for orientation in cultural matters for Nigerian policy makers. The Act is structured into five parts: Part I covers the establishment of the Institute and its Governing Board; Part II outlines objectives, functions, and powers; Part III deals with staff appointments and pensions; Part IV addresses financial provisions including funds, gifts, borrowing, estimates, accounts, audit, and annual reports; Part V includes miscellaneous provisions such as the establishment of a library, regulations, interpretation, and short title. The Institute is a body corporate with perpetual succession and a common seal. The Board consists of a chairman appointed by the President and representatives from key ministries and organizations. Members serve three-year terms, eligible for reappointment for one further term. The Act was enacted in 1993 and commenced on 23rd August 1993.
