The policy is a collaborative effort of Federal and State Ministries of Education and key stakeholders, with support from ENHANSE/USAID. The policy's vision is to produce highly knowledgeable, skilled, and creative teachers capable of producing globally competitive learners. Its goal is to ensure teachers are adequately catered for and adaptable to changing world, with training and recruitment based on explicit performance standards. The document outlines 12 sections including introduction, situation of teacher education in Nigeria, policy environment, policy process, conditions for success, guiding principles, policy direction (vision, goal, objectives), policy focus areas, funding (including Teacher Education Programme Development Plans), monitoring and evaluation (pre-service and in-service), teacher education policy manual, and status as a living document.
