Nigeria National Youth Policy-2019-2023
Overview
The Nigeria National Youth Policy 2019-2023 is a comprehensive policy document that outlines the framework for youth development and participation in Nigeria, aligned with sustainable development goals. The policy was reviewed and updated from the 2009 version by the Federal Ministry of Youth and Sports Development, incorporating best practices from the United Nations and input from various stakeholders including international development partners. Key changes include a reduction in the youth age bracket from 18–35 to 15–29 years to better target interventions. The policy has three strategic thrusts, ten thematic areas, and twenty-one objectives, emphasizing an evidence-based approach. It aims to address existing, new, and emerging challenges in the youth sector, and supports the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals, Demographic Dividend, and the Economic Recovery and Growth Plan (ERGP). The foreword, written by Honourable Minister Barr. Solomon Selcap Dalung, reassures commitment to implementation. The acknowledgement section credits the Federal Ministry of Youth and Sports Development and the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) for collaboration.
