River Basins Development Authorities Amendment ACT, 1981
Overview
The River Basins Development Authorities (Amendment) Act, 1981 (No. 7) is a Nigerian federal law that amends the River Basins Development Authority Act of 1979. The primary purpose of this amendment is to reconstitute the membership composition of eleven River Basins Development Authorities in Nigeria. Each authority is now to consist of 15 members, appointed by the President, with one serving as Chairman who must be an indigene of the state or states where the authority is established. The membership is apportioned between federal and state governments: nine members are appointed by the Federal Government, and the remaining six are appointed by the relevant state governments, divided variably depending on the authority. The amendment specifies the exact allocation for each authority, covering the Sokoto-Rima, Hadejia-Jama'are, Chad Basin, Upper Benue, Lower Benue, Cross River, Anambra-Imo, Niger, Ogun-Oshun, Benin-Owena, and Niger Delta River Basin Development Authorities. The Act came into effect on 1st October 1981.
