Overview

The Nigeria Child Survival Action Plan (NCSAP) 2025-2029 is a comprehensive strategic document developed by the Federal Ministry of Health & Social Welfare to address the high under-five mortality rate in Nigeria, which contributes significantly to the global burden of child deaths. The plan outlines a multi-level approach involving governance, partnerships, quality of care, community engagement, data-driven decisions, accountability, and resource mobilization. It sets targets aligned with Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 3.2, aiming to reduce neonatal mortality to 12 per 1,000 live births and under-five mortality to 25 per 1,000 live births by 2030. The document includes a bottleneck analysis, theory of change, strategic approaches, intervention packages, state-specific activities, roles and responsibilities, monitoring and evaluation framework, and costing. Key issues highlighted are equity gaps, preventable causes of death, and the need for improved healthcare access for vulnerable populations.
