Overview
The Nigerian Institute of Science Laboratory Technology ACT, 2003 (Act No. 12) establishes the Nigerian Institute of Science Laboratory Technology as a body corporate with perpetual succession, a common seal, and the ability to sue and be sued. The Institute is charged with advancing the science laboratory technology profession, determining standards of knowledge and skills for registration, promoting high standards of competence and conduct, maintaining a register of members, conducting examinations, granting certificates and diplomas, advising on examinations in Nigeria, conducting research in science laboratory technology, serving as a certifying agency, ensuring safety standards and facilities in laboratories, ensuring effective management of laboratories, and arranging on-the-job training. The Act is structured into parts covering establishment, financial provisions, appointment of registrar and preparation of register, registration, professional discipline, and miscellaneous provisions. It dissolves any previously incorporated institute and transfers its assets and liabilities. The Act commenced on 26th June 2003.
