Overview

The Statistics Act, 2007 is a Nigerian federal law enacted on 11th June, 2007, establishing the National Statistical System (NSS) to coordinate the production and use of official statistics. The Act repeals the 1957 Statistics Act and creates the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) as the central agency, along with a Governing Board, a Federal School of Statistics, and a National Consultative Committee on Statistics. Key objectives include promoting data integrity, evidence-based policy, and adherence to international standards. The Act covers data collection, confidentiality, dissemination, and penalties for non-compliance, and includes provisions for the transition of assets and liabilities.
